About the event

Inspired by a 14th-century limp vellum binding held at the Bodleian in Oxford, this demonstration will show the binding of a modern sympathetic long and link stitch medieval binding structure.

This is a two-day event, approx 4-6 each day starting at 9:30 a.m. EST

Day 1: We will discuss the history of the limp vellum binding structure, cover vocabulary, tools, and materials, and then start the process of preparing the cover and signatures. We may start sewing the signatures onto the cover.

Day 2: We will finish sewing the signatures into the cover and then We will weave on the long stitch sewing and attach the string for the closure

Two material kits will be offered, the first will be basic and affordable modern materials to learn on and the second will include vellum, leather, and 100% cotton paper for the more advanced and confident learner. There is also an option to just watch the demonstration without a kit sent to you.

This two-day BOOKFORGE [ATELIER!] event will be recorded and the links will be made available to all attendees via unlisted links. The links will be accessible indefinitely.
