About the event

Paste paper, also known as starch paper, is one of the earliest methods used to decorate paper. From the late 16th century through to the 18th century they were predominately used as book covers and as endsheets.

In this two-hour Decorative Paste Paper Demonstration, Bookbinder Edward Patrick Kranz will walk through the process of making paste and decorating paper for use in bookbinding and other creative endeavors. The demonstration will start with a short talk about the history and application of paste paper in the bookbinding world and then continue with essential vocabulary and a description of all tools and materials required for the process.

Throughout the demonstration, dozens of examples will be shown, representing a wide array of traditional and more modern looks for decorative paste paper.
